Ceramic Teachers
Job Type: Part-time. Hourly contractor (classes are 3 hours, private lessons are 2 hours)
Throwing Shapes is in search of Ceramic Teachers for our studio classes, the application period is rolling and the review process will be carried out as positions become available. All applications will be saved and then reviewed when positions are available candidates will be contacted directly.
Responsibilities:
Class Instruction:
Develop and teach ceramic classes for various skill levels and age groups.
Create a positive and supportive learning environment for students.
Instruct on various ceramic techniques, including hand-building, (and/or) wheel-throwing, glazing, and firing.
Curriculum Development:
Instruct on techniques including wedging, hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, firing and recycling clay.
Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of different learning styles and skills levels.
Provide essential information on studio equipment and firing procedures.
Student Engagement:
Foster a sense of community within classes, encouraging collaboration and creativity.
Provide constructive feedback to students to support their development.
Adhere to class schedule, punctuality is critical so that class begins and ends on time.
Studio Maintenance:
Assist with studio upkeep, including cleaning and organising shared spaces.
Collaborate with studio staff to maintain a safe and functional workspace.
Requirements:
Degree in art or relative experience working in ceramics
Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required
Proficiency in various ceramic techniques, including wheel throwing and hand-building.
Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public and act as an ambassador to the studio.
Manage student expectations and help identify realistic goals.
Passion for community engagement through the arts.
