Lead Technician

Location: Throwing Shapes, Mill St., Dublin 8
Commitment: 3 days a week

About Us:
Throwing Shapes is Ireland’s first shared ceramics studio—a community-driven space supporting makers at all levels through collaboration, skill-sharing and a love of clay.

Role Overview:
The Lead Technician will oversee glaze and kiln operations, support studio users (including 10 upstairs development potters and downstairs members), and ensure the studio runs safely and smoothly. This hands-on, collaborative role requires both technical expertise and a passion for community and knowledge-sharing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage glaze mixing, testing and development
  • Oversee kiln scheduling, loading, firing, repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain materials inventory and order supplies
  • Lead bi-weekly glaze meetups and specialty glaze classes
  • Train and support studio assistants and members
  • Maintain equipment and ensure health & safety compliance
  • Offer technical advice on firing, glaze issues, and materials
  • Collaborate on improving studio systems and cleanliness

Essential:

  • 3+ years’ experience in glazes and kiln operations
  • Strong glaze chemistry and kiln maintenance knowledge
  • Health & safety awareness in ceramics
  • Collaborative mindset, organized, and communicative
  • Willing to mentor others

Desirable:

  • Experience supervising or training in a ceramics setting
  • Knowledge of production pottery workflows
  • First Aid or Health & Safety certification
  • Admin/studio management experience
  • Interest in sustainable ceramics

Creative Marketing & Content Lead

Location: Throwing Shapes, Mill St., Dublin 8
Commitment: 2–3 days/week (must be on-site at least 2 days)

Throwing Shapes is looking for a creative, strategic, and highly organised person to lead all marketing and content efforts. You'll shape the voice and visual identity of Ireland’s first community ceramics studio. Telling our story through standout design, compelling copy and smart content strategy.

Role Overview:

This role blends art direction, content creation and marketing strategy. You’ll lead campaigns across Instagram, email and web—helping to promote classes, drive sales, and grow our vibrant creative community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, write and schedule content across all platforms
  • Lead visual direction for campaigns and socials
  • Write engaging, on-brand copy
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies
  • Track metrics and optimise performance
  • Be in the studio 2+ days/week to capture content and stay connected

Essential:

  • 3+ years in content creation, brand marketing or social media
  • A strong portfolio showing visual and copywriting skills
  • Proficiency in multi-channel strategy
  • Eye for design and strong writing chops
  • Confident working independently and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Background in design, craft, or creative industries
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, photography/video editing skills
  • Familiarity with Throwing Shapes’ community and tone

Lead our Level 2 handbuilding course for 12 students, focusing on advanced techniques, surface work, and personal projects through engaging, structured classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Level 2 handbuilding with a progressive curriculum
  • Demonstrate advanced skills (e.g., lidded vessels, surface decoration)
  • Provide personalised feedback and support
  • Manage materials and ensure safe studio practice
  • Collaborate with staff to maintain a positive studio environment
  • Foster creativity, experimentation, and community

Essential:

  • 2+ years teaching ceramics at intermediate/advanced level
  • 5+ years personal/professional studio experience
  • Strong technical handbuilding and surface technique skills
  • Availability for evenings/weekends
  • Excellent planning, communication, and passion for teaching

Desirable:

  • Experience in community/shared studios
  • Interest in student-led/project-based learning

Role Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced teacher to lead our Level 2 wheel throwing course for students ready to refine technique, explore complex forms and pursue personal projects. You’ll deliver structured, inspiring classes that challenge and support creative growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach 9 students in Level 2 throwing
  • Deliver a progressive, skills-based curriculum
  • Demonstrate advanced techniques (e.g., closed forms, sectional throwing, throwing off the hump)
  • Provide personalised feedback and mentorship
  • Manage materials and tools
  • Maintain a safe, respectful studio environment
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth logistics


Essential:

  • 2+ years teaching ceramics at intermediate/advanced level
  • 5+ years wheel throwing experience
  • Strong technical skill in throwing and surface techniques
  • Available to teach evenings and/or weekends
  • Excellent communication, planning and class management
  • Passion for supporting student development

Desirable:

  • Experience in a shared/community studio
  • Interest in student-led or project-based learning
