Nancy Fuller X Throwing Shapes
We are thrilled to welcome Nancy Fuller as our first international guest potter at Throwing Shapes! Nancy will lead a two-day hand-building workshop designed for intermediate-level participants.
Nancy graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee, with a degree in Fine Art Printmaking, and later earned an MA in the History of Art and Archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. A Mandarin scholarship took her back to Taiwan, her birthplace, where she discovered the art of wood-firing. She then spent a year training with anagama master Suzuki Shigeji in Shigaraki, Japan, before designing and building her own wood-fired kiln in Aberdeenshire. Nancy’s wood-firing journey has since taken her across Europe, Australia, and the US, where she has participated in residencies and symposiums, continually refining her craft.
During this weekend workshop, Nancy will share techniques learned from Asian masters and perfected over the past 20 years. Participants will explore pinching and coiling methods that enable precise control over form and scale, focusing on what Nancy calls “millimetre work” — the small adjustments that bring perfection to your pieces.
