Stella Baraklinou was our first professional resident from October 2025 - January 2026.
Stella Baraklianou (b. Greece) is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in the U.K. Her practice encompasses site-specific installation, sculpture, ceramics and photography.
Working with clay and sculpture, she is interested in merging digital narratives of the future with ancient historical artefacts. The sculptural coiled vessels she creates contain a variety of influences, from her Greek heritage and personal journeys of travel and migration to contemporary references. Stories of women in particular interest her, as a way of unearthing hidden narratives from ancient matriarchal societies.
Stella holds a practice-based PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London (2007) and an MA in Photographic Studies, University of Westminster (2002). She was most recently nominated for the Henry Moore Foundation Artists Award (2025) and awarded DYCP funding from the Arts Council, England (2023). Her work is held in private and public collections in the U.K. and the U.S.
At the end of her residency in Throwing Shapes, Stella presented an exhibition of work created during her time in Dublin, Violet January, which took place on 22nd January 2026.
