A solo exhibition by Abhainn Wheeler

After a year as our Clay City Graduate Resident, Abhainn Wheeler presents Alltar, her final exhibition at Throwing Shapes.

Alltar - the Irish for “otherworld” - is a collection of ceramic vessels exploring portals, transformation and the possibility of passage between worlds.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Irish passage tombs, stone circles and burial vessels, the work considers these places and objects as thresholds - spaces for negotiating memory, ancestry, seasons, death and renewal.

Fired clay undergoes its own transformation: earth becomes stone through fire. Here, the making process becomes a kind of ritual passage in itself.

We’re incredibly excited to celebrate the culmination of Abhainn’s year in the studio and share this body of work with you.
