• Anna Barnwell

    Studio Assistant
    She/her

Anna is an integral part of our team at Throwing Shapes, supporting everyone with studio tasks & details that keep the studio organised and our community happy!

Anna first touched clay at a studio in San Diego, realising pretty quickly that she loved it. When she moved back home to Ireland and Throwing Shapes opened two weeks later, it felt like fate. Starting with a class, then becoming a member, she showed the team how much she enjoyed spending time here by also becoming a Skills Exchange member. It wasn't long before she became an official part of the team.

Anna studied European Studies at Trinity College Dublin before spending several years in English language education, teaching both children and adults from all over the world. Anna has recently found herself drawn more and more to hand-building, finding it much more meditative and peaceful.

As Studio Assistant, Anna handles email correspondence, loads kilns, and helps keep the studio running smoothly. One of her favorite aspects of the role is watching what everyone's getting up to in the studio and seeing how their work evolves over time.

Fun fact: Anna speaks Italian and some French, with Spanish next on her language-learning list!

Sam lead my workshop and he in particular has a knack for making even the most nervous beginner feel confident. His guidance is patient, fun, and super encouraging. He doesn’t just teach; he inspires! The space itself is stunning, with a perfect balance of coziness and creativity. The materials are top-notch, and the workshops cater to all levels, making it perfect whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned potter.

Throwing Shapes is a beautiful pottery space that nurtures creativity and community. The space is inspiring and welcoming, it's well maintained and designed really well for getting amongst some clay - be it hand building, throwing on the wheel or glazing. The staff promote an inclusive environment and are always open to sharing some words of wisdom to help me on my pottery journey - Thanks so much Siofra, Emma, Sam and Aine!
