Siofra Murdock is a potter, artist and founder of Throwing Shapes, Ireland’s first community ceramic studio. After studying Fine Art in Manchester and earning a master’s degree from Smurfit Business School, she worked as an award-winning Art Director for seven years before pursuing her dream of creating an open-access ceramic studio.

Siofra has exhibited work in Malaysia, Germany, Spain, Ireland and the UK. She formally trained in ceramics under Master Potter Corrie Bain in Barcelona and worked as a Studio Tech in Turning Earth, London, before moving home. She enjoys teaching hand-building classes and corporate events as a break from the admin of running the studio. Passionate about the possibilities of clay, she likes to inspire her students to go beyond foundational skills and encourages play and creativity with the material. Though skilled in throwing and glazing, Siofra’s heart lies in hand-building. Her favourite part of Throwing Shapes is the vibrant community it has fostered, with members finding connections, belonging and calling it their ‘happy place’ after a busy day or week at work.

Fun fact: Siofra grew up with three pet ostriches.

Throwing Shapes is hands down the most amazing pottery workshop I’ve ever attended! From the moment you step through the door, you’re welcomed into a warm, creative atmosphere where every detail has been carefully thought out.

Dublin City really needed a creative space like this and I’m already looking forward to signing up for another class/course. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to try something new or improve their pottery skills! It was a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday afternoon
