Shane has been part of Throwing Shapes since early 2026, bringing a rare combination of technical mastery, artistic rigour, and genuine warmth to the studio floor. Originally from Co. Wexford and now based in Dublin, his path into ceramics took him from an Honours BA in Ceramics at NCAD to the Royal College of Art in London, where he studied as a Griffin Scholar - one of the most prestigious awards in craft education.

His practice explores the poetic and political potential of clay, using handcrafted vessels to examine gender dynamics, social hierarchies, and the evolving tensions between the physical and digital worlds. By weaving together ceramics, performance, illustration, and spoken word, Shane makes work that functions as both object and dialogue - questioning endurance, fragility, and what it means to be a man making things by hand.

Before joining Throwing Shapes, Shane served as Lead Ceramic Technician at University Arts London and Technical Manager of The Kiln Rooms, London, and has built residencies at NCAD and Clancy Quay Studios into his practice along the way. His work has been exhibited at Sculpture in Context, Camden Arts Centre, Hayward Gallery, and Electric Picnic, with public commissions including MAS-X.3 at Art'Otel Hoxton. You might also recognise him from screens - Shane presents RTÉ's This Is Art Club!, bringing creative practice to younger audiences across Ireland.
